Perfectionism and procrastination will keep you from progress. You do not need to be perfect to make progress.
In fact, you have to be willing to be imperfect – you have to be willing to fall down, to fail, in order to learn and grow.
Perfectionism is a form of procrastination.
Both keep you from doing what you CAN do NOW to make progress TODAY.
One of my clients recently shared a mantra that I think would all benefit from keeping in mind: We train on Sunday while you wait for Monday.
Stop waiting. Stop waiting until it can be perfect because it doesn’t need to be.
Do you let your inner critic run the show? Do you let your thoughts dictate your actions? Thoughts are powerless ideas. The only power they have is the power you give them with the actions you take.
Regret comes up when we think about opportunities we missed, choices we didn’t make, efforts we didn’t put forth or talents we didn’t develop. There are some regrets we can’t influence – maybe words we never said to someone before they died. But three are so many regrets we accept as final even though they aren’t. We close the book instead of writing another chapter. We consider the situation over instead of taking action to adjust the path. Use regret as a tool - use it to do something different right now. Break out. Take action.
To become unlimited, you must explore the outer edges of your comfort zone. You must seek & embrace discomfort. You must seek out your own limits.
When accepting a sports performance award, basketball superstar Koby Brant said:
"We’re not on this stage just because of talent or ability,
We’re up here because of 4 a.m. We’re up here because of two-a-days or five-a-days.
We’re up here because we had a dream and let nothing stand in our way. If anything tried to bring us down, we used it to make us stronger.”
Being calm today is a predictor of success tomorrow.
Train yourself to pause, to slow down, to not immediately react.
Most of the decisions we regret, most of the choices that take us away from our goals are decisions we rushed into or situations to which we reacted impulsively. Slow down. Calm down.

What are your action steps after being inspired by something you see or hear?
Advice & motivation don't act unless you do.
Ships don't sink because of the water around them but because of the water within them.
You are the gatekeeper.
You are in control of your own experience.
How much time do you devote each day or week to what you say matters to you?
Think about that goal you want to achieve - how much time & effort do you devote to it weekly?
If you want to maximize your life, maximize how you spend your time.
When I challenge people to identify WHY they self-sabotage and WHY there is a gap between what they want and what they do, one thing that continuously arises is fear of missing out.
The crazy thing about FOMO is that it’s a thought process, not a real thing. It’s merely perception or anticipation of loss, not real loss.
If you say yes to that thing, what are you saying no to?
The way you react to temptation gives the temptation power or takes it away.
Luck favors the prepared and the persistent.
Achievement requires preparation and persistence.
Are you prepared? Are you persistent? Which needs more work?
Do you need to prioritize daily preparation?
Or do you need to focus on daily persistence?
There is no goal so big that you can't take the next step.
You’ve probably heard about the domino effect. You can start with a small domino, smaller than a Tic Tac and that tiny little domino can trigger a reaction that takes down a domino the size of the empire state building after just 29 dominos of increasing size.
I tell you this to remind you that very small actions have far reaching effects. Do not dismiss any change as too small to make an impact.
Create your own domino effect.
Have you ever eaten something you regret and used that choice to justify overeating for the rest of the day, figuring you’ll start fresh tomorrow? Or maybe you didn’t have a productive morning so you loaf around on the couch all day while telling yourself that you’ll get serious tomorrow? Or maybe you have a short exchange with someone, your feelings are hurt and you carry it with you all day – in a bad mood and feeling down.
"Imagine this: If you had $86,400 in your bank account and someone stole $10 from you, would you be upset and throw the remaining $86,390 away to spite them or because you might as well lose it all and start fresh tomorrow? Of course not. See, we have 86,400 seconds in each day. Don't let someone's negative 10 seconds ruin the remaining 86,390 seconds of your precious day."
No matter how the day started, there is power & potential in the remainder of the day. Don't give it away or throw it away.
Kill the quit.
That's what CrossFit athlete Brooke Ence tells herself when she feelings like giving up.
She craves the moments when she wants to quit but chooses to endure. That's how she wins every day.
If you light a match, do you have a fire?
You do for a second, but it won't last unless you do more. It won't less unless you tend to it and actively participate in making it grow.
The same is true of motivation. The spark will not last unless you act upon it.
"Action now is a bargain compared to what it's going to cost everyone later."
The longer you wait, the more it will cost you – in every way.
This is the definition of hell: on the last day of your life, the person you became meets the person you could have become.
Questions become answers when words become actions.
The other day I watched the new HBO documentary Becoming Warren Buffett.
In the documentary he posed a hypothetical scenario to a group of young students:
Imagine I'm going to buy each of you a car. Any car you want. But there's a catch: it's the only car you will ever own.
You'd make the decision carefully, right? And then you'd take impeccable care of that car.
He didn't buy the students cars but he did remind them that the scenario is true of their bodies and their minds.
It's the only one you'll ever have.
Do your choices reflect impeccable care?
What drives results? Focus on what drives results. What results are you after? What things drive those results? Focus there every day. If you know where you’re going, stay in that lane. You’ll get there so much faster if you continue to ask, “what drives results” instead of turning your head at every distraction or comparison.
How are you complicit in creating the conditions you say you don’t want? What is it about your life that you aren’t satisfied with? In what areas do you want more? What choices are you making that create what you say you don’t want?
When you can’t control what’s happening to you, change your response to it. When you can’t control the circumstance, control your attitude. When things happen to you or around you that you can’t control, challenge yourself to improve your response to what is happening.
That is your superpower.
Don't stumble over something behind you.
There are many legitimate roadblocks & obstacles on our path to progress but your past shouldn't be one of them.
Your past can only hold you back if you stay with it.
